Black Friday Biggest Sale of The Year!

Looking to give a sparkly gift this holiday season without breaking the bank? Most national jewelry chains like Jared and Kay don’t release major Black Friday ads, but big box retailers like Kohl’s and Walmart have been advertising some reasonably discounted items. When it comes to some of the more extravagant gifts, event frugal shoppers have plenty of options!

Kohl’s featuring deals on classic items

This year’s Kohl’s BLACK FRIDAY heavily features a classic fine jewelry staple – diamond solitaire earrings. The ad offers an extra 20% off on top of already generous 55-60% discounts, for savings of up to $3400 off regular prices. For example, ½-carat t.w. earrings – originally $1200 and on sale for $437.49 – come to $349.99 with the 20% reduction.IGI-certified earrings of the same carat weight had the same 20% discount from their sale price – but at a much higher Black Friday price tag of $639.99.
For those looking to pop the question this holiday season, the Kohl’s ad also features a “Special Edition” 5/8-carat t.w. diamond ring in 14k white gold for $549.99, a 20% discount from the sale price of $687.49.

Zales’ Black Friday ad heavy on diamond rings

The only major national jewelry chain to even release a Black Friday ad, Zales appears to be jumping into the shopping frenzy by appealing to couples who are thinking about a classic Christmas proposal. In its ad, Zales features ½-carat t.w. diamond rings for $419.98 to $749.98, roughly a 37% discount from their original prices of $669 to $1199.99.
The Zales ad also features a 1-carat t.w. diamond ring for $699.98, down 46% from an original price of $1289.

Sears offers free jewelry to store members

Aiming to get shoppers enrolled in its customer loyalty program, Sears is offering free items to those in its membership club. Member shoppers who buy a ½-carat t.w. diamond necklace for $199.99 will receive a free matching ½-carat t.w. diamond bracelet with a sale value of $199.99. Plus, members who buy a gold Romanza necklace for $199.99 will receive a free matching bracelet with a regular value of $319.99, according to the Black Friday advertisement.
In addition to even more buy-one-get-a-matching-item deals on pendants and earrings, Sears is also advertising up to 75% off a selection of fine jewelry, though the ad doesn’t mention specific items.

Walmart ad highlights savings, not prices

Buried on page 34 of its 41-page Black Friday ad, Walmart is simply offering discounts on wedding rings, 10k gold hoop earrings and holiday jewelry based on price. For example, the retailer is offering a $100 discount on bridal rings of $298 or more and a $50 discount on rings priced at $148 or more.
Black Friday deals on earrings are even more modest at Walmart, with $20 savings on all 10k gold hoop earrings priced at $60 or more and $5 discounts on earrings costing $15 or more.

Fine jewelry deals are worth hunting for

Retailers can count on steady jewelry sales every holiday season, so there isn’t necessarily much incentive for them to offer deep discounts on the shiny baubles that will be flying out the door anyway. That being said, there are still plenty of deals to be found, and even modest discounts can result in thousands of dollars in savings. Why spend full price when you don’t need to?
